Accepting an internship comes with great responsibility. We offer these guidelines for your review:

  • Prior to being accepted into an internship, the student must complete an application. This application will subsequently be reviewed by the Program Director and the sponsoring preceptor before placement is approved.
  • A permission form signed by the student and parent(s) must be on file prior to student being placed in an internship.
  • The student intern will follow all rules stipulated in the St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute handbook.
  • The student Intern will be responsible, courteous, and respectful of all employees associated with the sponsoring organization.
  • If the student intern is unable to attend a previously agreed upon session of duty, he will contact ANY and ALL individuals responsible for his specific internship.
  • The student intern agrees to adhere to ALL of the regulations required by the sponsoring organization.
  • If the student intern determines that the assigned internship is not suitable for his specific circumstances, he will contact the Internship Program Director ASAP and communicate his concerns and/or difficulties. It will be the responsibility of the Program Director to inform the sponsoring organization of any outcomes.
  • The student should at NO TIME communicate ANY disparaging remarks regarding the sponsoring organization to any members of the sponsoring organization.
  • Upon the completion of the internship, the student intern will complete an evaluation of the internship.
  • Upon completion of the internship, the preceptor(s) from the sponsoring organization will complete an evaluation of the student intern pertaining to his involvement during the internship.
  • Some internships will be voluntary, while others may receive a stipend. Whether the internship is strictly a voluntary experience or have some monetary payment will be dictated by the sponsoring organization. Currently, most of the internships will be voluntary in nature.
