Dr. Kenneth Snyder: Neurosurgery and Healthcare Intern
Students will have the opportunity to learn about the myriad of opportunities in health care by doing hands-on simulation activities, reading recorded cases, seeing other medical organizations, shadowing in the neuro catheterization lab (if 17 years old), and participating/listening to interactive lectures.
Start and end dates: Starts July 5th and end July 31st
Location: The Jacobs Institute, 875 Ellicott Street, Buffalo, NY 14203
Day(s) of the week the intern needs to be on site: Need to be on site Monday through Friday
How many hours: 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM (interns- bring lunches or buy lunch @ Buffalo General’s cafeteria)
Session(s) for internship? Summer
Any age requirement? Rising juniors or seniors
Any course prerequisites: Biology and Chemistry (AP Biology and AP Chemistry will be useful)
Specific skills, if any, required: Motivated, Industrious and Responsible; also all interns will need to bring their own laptops each day
Specific duties: Each intern will chose a medically-related topic to research and prepare a three minute TED-type talk on it for presentation to the group including Dr. Snyder, JI staff, and the college interns on the last day of the program. Presentations will be recorded and made available to the students.
Any forms an intern needs to complete prior to working within organization?: Yes, there are several forms that need to be filled out if the student is 17 and will be shadowing in the cath lab.
