Town of Cheektowaga Police Department

Interns will be working with police officers and learn about law enforcement and what the law enforcement career is all about.

Start and end dates:  Application deadline is May 1, 2018. The 3-week academy will be held in summer 2018. Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon

Location: Town of Cheektowaga Police Department, 3223 Union Road, Cheektowaga, NY 14227.

Day(s) of the week the intern needs to be on site: Monday-Friday

How many hours:  From 9:00am – 12:00 noon

Session(s) for internship?  Summer

Any age requirement?  15 or older

Any course prerequisites: Student does NOT have to be a resident of Town of Cheektowaga, but town residents will receive preferential acceptance.

Specific skills, if any, required:  Keen interest in law enforcement.

 Specific duties:  The students will discover the minimum qualification, training requirements and daily responsibilities of other county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies through guest speakers and tours of their facilities. Students will view actual pictures and video of crime and accident scenes and have the opportunity to take the actual physical fitness test required for Police Officers. Participants may be exposed to the TASER, and will take part in the Firearms Training Simulator and shoot the Cheektowaga Police standard issued handgun. In addition to the regular scheduled sessions, students will ride with an Officer for an 8-hour tour of duty and participate in a courtroom observation.

Any forms an intern needs to complete prior to working within organization?: Application form along w/ Parental consent form. All applicants must successfully complete a background investigation and interview.
